The Shipmodeler's Online Community

Last month, the club I belong to had a discussion titled Tools that Suck. I thought it was a good discussion forum for member, which would hopefully save people money so they don't buy things that other people have found don't live up to promises.

One thing someone mentioned was the rope walk from Model Shipways. Has anyone else found this to be so also?

Please post suggestions on things to avoid here.

Hi all,
I am going to write an introduction, but the subject matter caught my eye....
I would like to mention the "Loom-A-Line"......
A plastic frame with 30 brass pins supplied.
Supposed to allow you to setup the shrouds off the model....
That is exactly it's shortcoming.....
Much better to run the lines and then accomodate any adjustments to give you your desired results.....
Regards,

Great Topic...Wish there had been a thread with this topic when I started. For me it is the "TRUE SANDER" that I feel is a bad investment as a tool. I bought one on the recommendation of an experianced modeler and find I hardly ever use it. For the price, the "CHOPPER II" is ten times more useful and you get a better finished end with it then with the sander. Just my thoughts, others may find it a great tool.

I find the same thing about the True Sander. I bought it because it was recommended in the Bluenose practicum by Lauck Street shipyards and never use it. Glad to hear the comment on the Chopper II - I've been eyeing that. I might now need to pull the trigger...

Ah Yes!
The true Sander....
I am also a victim....( of the LSS)
I think it is just a clobbered up collection of masonite!
I built my own "True" sander......
It can be found on my website......
